Ahh yesss, the begining of a new year... Everyone is working on their new year resolutions. Gyms ar bursting, book sales have increased and netflix viewership decreased.
Of course i have no clue wheter the above is correct, but the bottomline is that I believe that many people as a part of their new years resolutions want to change their habits.
However, if you want to change your habits permanently (or for longer than just a couple of weeks), you will esentially want to change your lifestyle - and lifestyle changes are never easy.
In fact, there are many factors that force a certain lifestyle upon us.
A perfect example is a demanding job - if someone has to work 10 hours per day, plus 5 hours on weekends - It makes total sense that if that person will come back from work tired. Will such person have the energy to read books, go to gym, work on that dream novel? No of course not, such person will want to eat some good food, watch netflix and get some sleep.
And even if, through some miricle, that person somehow will force themeselves to change their lifestyle - for example start reading books after work - generally, at some point maybe after a couple of weeks that habit is likelly to break (under the assumption that reading books is a lot less fun than watching netflix).
The breaking of a habit here not related to the lack of willpower, in my opinion, it is just that any change in the life of such person will be extreamlly difficult, since their job is taking away all of their time and energy. This is what i would call a habit bottleneck - the job in this situation is a barrier that is preventing the person from any significant change in their life.
Of course, there are people who can work 55 hours per week and then use their remaining time to excersise in gym and work on a sidehustle, but such people are extreamlly rare or just do not have any other choice - maybe because of committments or so on.
The point that i am making here that is valuable to ask onself: are there any bottlenecks in my life that are preventing me from enacting the changes or lifestyle that I deem better that what i have now?
